Dates
Option 1: Monday, June 8th 6 PM – 8:30 PM

Option 2: Saturday, June 13th 10 AM – 12:30 PM

Calpulli Mexican Dance Company is auditioning both male and female identifying Dancers with ballet folklórico, percussive footwork, and/ or contemporary movement experience for upcoming paid touring and local performances in the Fall and beyond. The company is looking to hire part-time and project-based dancer positions for its performance company.

The company is looking into hiring 1 female identifying and 2 male identifying performers.

Register: Please fill out the auditioner survey here (https://forms.gle/wRyML5LSqkiLxxCU6) at least 72 hours prior to the audition. Surveys due on June 5th & 10th, 2026. If you find the audition after the deadline contact General Manager Lisa Javelas at lisa@calpullidance.org. Walk-ins welcome.

Supplies needed and audition process: Please bring Folklórico or character shoes for rhythmic footwork exercises, comfortable clothing, and ballet slippers (or bare feet). Auditioners can warm up in the studio before the start of the audition. The audition will have a folkloric dance section to evaluate percussive footwork and ability to learn. Then follows a section of stylized movement either balletic or contemporary to assess this experience and ability to learn. The audition may include elements of dance theater for story telling elements of the company’s work. We conclude with a group interview where Calpulli Directors and auditioners will ask questions. Call back will be June 15 and/or 17 for a rehearsal with the Company.

What we seek: We welcome dancers from all movement backgrounds who are passionate about performance, storytelling, and cultural dance traditions. Our work requires skills in ballet and modern technique fundamentals to advanced experience, musicality, folklórico and general percussive footwork, and skirt movement. While experience in all styles is preferred, it is not mandatory for dancers who are strong movers, adaptable, and fast learners. Calpulli’s productions are stories rooted in collaboration. The ability to learn repertoire quickly, retain choreography, and work effectively within an ensemble environment is highly valued. We seek Dancers who are professional, punctual, committed, and eager to contribute positively to the creative process. Storytelling ability and acting experience are considered a plus.
The company is looking into hiring 1 female identifying and 2 male identifying performers.

Compensation: Dancers with Calpulli Mexican Dance Company are paid employees. Rehearsal rate is $17/ hr. Compensation for performances range from $150 to $300 per performance. Additional information about rehearsal schedule can be found at the survey link above.
