EL ALCALDE DE ZALAMEA – After the Curtain
About the Show
In celebration of its 30th anniversary, Teatro Círculo proudly presents El Alcalde de Zalamea (The Mayor of Zalamea) by Pedro Calderón de la Barca. In this timeless Spanish classic, a father’s love collides with military oppression, turning justice into a deadly tool. Set against the backdrop of the U.S. invasion of Puerto Rico in 1898, this adaptation brings new resonance to Calderón’s masterpiece, where the moral integrity of Pedro Crespo, a prosperous peasant, is put to the test when his daughter Isabel falls victim to a Spanish Army captain.
