Micro Theater: The art of creating engaging Short Plays

This dynamic master class explores the art of conceiving and creating a compelling micro theater play using various forms of inspiration. Micro-Teatro: El arte de crear obras cortas cautivadoras

Esta dinámica clase magistral explora el arte de concebir y crear una obra de microteatro impactante utilizando diversas fuentes de inspiración. Los participantes aprenderán a construir narrativas poderosas, desarrollar personajes cautivadores y maximizar la emoción en un tiempo limitado. A través de ejercicios interactivos, y desafíos prácticos de escritura, los asistentes adquirirán las herramientas necesarias para crear su propia pieza de microteatro, lista para cautivar al público en entornos no convencionales. Ideal para teatreros que buscan ampliar sus límites creativos en un formato ágil y dinámico.

 


About the instructor

 

ALEJANDRA RAMOS RIERA is a Puerto Rican published and award-winning playwright, actress, and director based in NYC. Winner of The Miranda Family Voces Latinx National Playwriting Competition (2020). Her published work includes her book En la azotea, 10 piezas cortas de teatro (Ed. Callejón 2016), Times of Fire (Vice Versa Magazine, 2020), among others. Recent playwriting credits: “Burned”(Pregones/PRTT); “Cuarto Adentro” (Regional Tour,); Off-Broadway: Malas Mañas (Repertorio Español, 2023). Co-founder and Artistic Director of former theater company Teatro la azotea, Inc., pioneers in bringing the concept of Micro-Theater to Puerto Rico. Ramos holds a B.A in Dance and Theater, from the University of Puerto Rico (Magna Cum Laude), and a M.A. in Scenic Arts from the University of Murcia, Spain. She has shared her expertise through teaching playwriting courses and workshops at various institutions including the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus (2017- 2018), Guttman Community College, CUNY (2019) among others. Additionally, she has been a Guest Speaker at Will & Merry University (2023), and Emory University (2021-2024). Currently serves as Artistic Associate of Pregones/PRTT., and it’s an active member of Latinx Playwrights Circle.

Cuenta con varias publicaciones entre ellas su libro “En la azotea, 10 piezas cortas de teatro” (Ed. Callejón, 2016), “Times of Fire” (*Vice Versa Magazine*, 2020), entre otras. Entre sus créditos recientes como dramaturga se encuentran: “Burned (Pregones/PRTT); “Cuarto Adentro* (Gira Regional); y Off-Broadway: “Malas Mañas” (Repertorio Español, 2023). Es cofundadora y de la compañía Teatro la azotea, Inc. Pioneros en llevar el concepto de Microteatro a Puerto Rico.  Ramos posee un B.A. en Danza y Teatro de la Universidad de Puerto Rico (Magna Cum Laude) y un M.A. en Artes Escénicas de la Universidad de Murcia, España. Ha compartido su experiencia impartiendo cursos y talleres de dramaturgia en diversas instituciones, incluyendo la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras (2017–2018) y Guttman Community College, CUNY (2019), entre otras. Además, ha sido conferencista invitada en Will & Merry University (2023) y en Emory University (2021–2024).  Actualmente, se desempeña como asociada artística en *Pregones/PRTT., y es miembro del Latinx Playwrights Circle.

  • Language: English and Spanish
  • Duration: 2 hours, including a 30-minute Q&A session
  • Arrival Time: Please arrive 15 minutes before the start of the class. The class will begin promptly at the scheduled time.
  • Attendance: Only register if you can commit to attending the entire class.
  • Late Admission: No one will be admitted once the class has started.

Cancellation Policy:

  • This complimentary offer for HOLA members is subject to limited availability. We ask that you register only if you can attend the entire event.
  • In the event that you need to cancel your reservation, we kindly ask for your prompt notification with a minimum of 24 hours’ notice. Please send an email to inform us of your cancellation at education@holaofficial.org.
  • Failure to provide timely notice or being a no-show will result in a 3-month restriction from participating in HOLA programming, starting from the event date.
  • To register for events during the restriction period, a $35 penalty fee will be required to waive the restriction.
