Moisés Kaufman Acting Master Class

Join us for an exceptional master class led by the renowned Venezuelan playwright and director, Moisés Kaufman. A celebrated figure in the theater world, Kaufman is the founder of the Tectonic Theater Project and has garnered accolades such as the National Medal of Arts and multiple Tony and Emmy nominations.

In this master class, Kaufman will delve into the intricacies of theatrical performance and direction through hands-on work with selected monologues and scenes. Participants will have the unique opportunity to observe and engage in the process of bringing text to life on stage.

 


Class Structure:

 

  • Introduction: Brief overview of the session and objectives by Moisés Kaufman.
  • Monologues: Kaufman will work with three actors, each performing their own monologue selection of 2-4 minutes. This segment focuses on individual performance techniques and character development.
  • Scenes: The session will include two 5-minute scenes, providing deeper insights into scene work, actor collaboration, and the dynamics of interactive performance. Actors will perform with their scene partners otherwise a reader will be present. 
  • Q&A: An interactive question and answer session, allowing participants to engage with Kaufman and gain further insights into theatrical practices and methodologies.

 


Scene/Monologue Presentations

 

Advanced actors have a unique opportunity to watch Moisés Kaufman work on three monologues and two scenes presented by selected HOLA members during the class.  

To participate, please upload your materials (monologue or scene and name of scene partner) when signing up to ensure a smooth selection process. Materials can be either in English or Spanish. Actors will be chosen based on their HOLA profiles and the material submitted. Deadline to submit is Sunday, June 2, 2024. Confirmation of selected actors will be confirmed Monday, June 3, 2024.

Actors not selected (or those who choose to attend as observers) will still have the opportunity to learn by watching others’ work and participating in the Q&A session at the end of the class.

 


Monologue/Scene Selection Process and Actor Preparation

 

  • Actors who wish to work must submit their monologue or scene selections at registration to determine which selections will be chosen.
  • Monologues cannot be longer than 4 minutes. 
  • Scenes cannot be longer than 5 minutes. 
  • All selections are to be performed, fully memorized. 

Actors performing a scene must have a scene partner registered.

  • Arrival Time: Please arrive 15 minutes before the start of the class. The class will begin on time.
  • Attendance: Do not register if you cannot commit to being present for the entire class.
  • Late Admission: No one will be admitted once the class has started. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Cancellation Policy:

  • This complimentary offer for HOLA members is subject to limited availability. We ask that you register only if you can attend the entire event.
  • In the event that you need to cancel your reservation, we kindly ask for your prompt notification with a minimum of 24 hours’ notice. Please send an email to inform us of your cancellation at education@holaofficial.org.
  • Failure to provide timely notice or being a no-show will result in a 3-month restriction from participating in HOLA programming, starting from the event date.
  • To register for events during the restriction period, a $35 penalty fee will be required to waive the restriction.
